The development of organisational models in utilities

To comply with regulations and provide increasingly efficient services to end customers, energy & utilities companies often need to develop their organisational models or introduce new ones.

By adopting an adhocracy model, and according to the strategic objective, it can be established which company structure should be redefined based on:

  • internal consistency - work allocation, coordination, grouping of working positions, decentralisation, the size of the organisational units
  • contingent factors - employees’ age, the age of the company/unit on which the redesign is planned, its size, and the company IT system

Innovating processes, IT systems and organisation

Through the Target Operating Model (TOM), we help electricity and gas sales companies to implement new processes and institutionalise corporate standards and procedures.

With our consultants, we analyse the current situation (As Is), identify the gaps to be filled (Gap Analysis) and the steps to be taken to obtain the model (To Be), to innovate and renew.

The objective is to create tangible and measurable value in terms of knowledge and continuous improvement by identifying goals and the tactical guidelines to achieve them. Typically, the targets relate to three assets:

  • systems and data - by analysing the existing application map, we trace improvement levers by defining new solutions and/or functions, specifying the effectiveness and efficiency metrics to be measured for the Company Information System
  • procedures - we define operational procedures for internal audits. Procedures to be followed for conducting sessions with auditors or for Law 262 purposes are also described
  • organisation - we define the responsibility and intervention level according to the RACI matrix for the various company units involved. This is specified for each level of control to be implemented within the time frames and activities to be conducted
